Walker

According to the oral history the first Walker in the area was John Walker from Brigus and his wife Agnes Summers. They both died and are buried in Little Bay. They had five children all born in St. Patrick’s; Ellen (1883) married Tom Armstrong, Joseph (1888) married Margaret Cleary, Margaret (1889), John who died as a baby, and William (1906) who died in a mining accident at Bett’s Cove when he was only 19. The remaining Walkers in Little Bay descend from this lineage. My first record of John is from 1885. However, I have found another Walker named William who appears in town by 1892. It’s interesting to note that while John was Catholic, William was Church of England. Both men remained in Little Bay after the fires with John said to have died there. My last record of William in Little Bay is from 1911. The image is of Rev. Walker. Below are all references to the Walker family I’ve found so-far.
