Cahial

I don’t have much yet to go on for the name Cahial. The two I can place in Little Bay are named Michael and Richard and my earliest record is from 1882. I think it likely that Richard is Michael’s son. Almost all of my references come from the text “All Quiet” by Doyle Wells. I’d welcome any help.

1886, Jan 30 – Death of Ellen Conway age 36 in Little Bay. She was the daughter of John Cahill (TS)

1886, March 6 – Michael Cahial summoned for drunk and disorderly (TS)

1886, April 12 – Michael Cahal summoned for drunk and disorderly (Wells, P. 132)

1886, April 13 – Michael Cahal in court for for drunk and disorderly. The judge released him along with Arthur Morrison “for the sake of their families” (Wells, P. 133)

1886, April 17 – Michael Cahal was again arrested for drunk and disorderly. It took help from several people to bring him in this time including Thomas Cain and Abel Dean. He also assaulted Constable Meaney while in lockup (Wells, P. 134)

1886, April 19 – Michael Cahal appeared in court facing those charges. As this was his third offence in two months he was charged $14 which he paid that day. He was released at 1pm (Wells, P. 135)

1886, Oct 20 – Richard Cahail stoled a pair of shoes from the schooner Robert Fidds from Fogo while it was anchored in Little Bay (Wells, P. 172)

1886, Nov 16 – Constable Meaney was seeking Richard Cahail at Shoal Arm for stealing the shoes belonging to John Brine. The shoes were discovered there but Michael Cahail was not located (Wells, P. 172)

1886, Nov 17 – A warrant was issued for Richard Cahail and the police search for the thief continued (Wells, P. 173)

1886, Nov 18 – Richard Cahail was arrested and sentenced to one month of hard labour at the Little Bay jail (Wells, P. 173)

1886, Dec 9 – Death of Rosanna Armstrong age 76 in Little Bay. She was the daughter of Michael Cahill of Newtown (DC / ET)

1889 – Michael Cahill at Indian Bight, Little Bay (Voter’s List)
