Adams

The Adams family is a tricky one as it’s difficult to claim them as living in Little Bay. The first mention I’ve found comes from July 1884. The schooner Annie B. made a significant arrival at Little Bay, carrying two men who had been found adrift at sea in a small dory. These men, John Lyons and John Adams, had been separated from their larger vessel while performing duties in dense fog. Remarkably, they survived four days in the ocean without any supplies, subsisting only on a dead bird they discovered floating on the water. This harrowing tale was reported in the Evening Telegram on July 21, 1884.

It’s not until 1893 that George Adams shows up on records at Woodford’s Cove. Woodford’s Cove was listed as part of Little Bay on the voter’s list during this period but it is a ways away. In 1893 Susan Adams is found there with him. She is the widow of John Adams. In 1904 George is again the only Adams there.

After this we get a John Adams from Springdale operating a store in Little Bay in the 1920s.
