Sources Found On September 2nd 1880 a miner named John Appleton died by falling down one of the shafts. This event is covered in the Twillingate Sun and possibly the Carbonner Herald that month.
Sources Sought I have a note of an Evening Telegram reference to this event as well but it’s not tagged in Tropy. I need to see if it’s a mistake or not. The CH and ET might be one in the same but if not I’m missing one. I’ll need more to go on as neither gives any more detail on the man that could flesh him out.
I have no other references to the name Appleton. I’ll have to start by figuring out where on the island the family name comes from and see if I can luck out with a name and DOD match by headstone.
Genealogy sites didn’t turn up a match with the limited information I’ve got here.
