According to a MyHeritage page Mr. Ball was born and died in Botwood but moved to Little Bay from Tilt Cove where he was married in 1877. They also mention a 1882 residence listing. I should confirm these references with original documents. Placing him in ’82 would help.

Further references are required to expand his stay as the two I have are close together. Children’s birth records could help with that.

His presence at Tilt Cove indicates he was mining before Little Bay’s start in 1878. It’d be nice to see if he worked under the Germans.
