John William Crane and his wife Catherine arrived in Little Bay between 1878 and 1881. They’re involved in the town’s higher culture. They each perform at the Public Hall. Further, Catherine’s sister Eliza was married to mine captain Philip McVicar.

- John W. Crane did a recitation of “That accounts for the milk in the coca nut” at the Public Hall (Twillingate Sun, Feb).
- J. W. Crane played on the married men’s team in a game of Cricket (Twillingate Sun, Aug 10).

1884 –
Little Bay’s infamous Skittle Alley proprietor, John Lamb, marries Catherine Crane in Upper Island Cove. Catherine was the daughter of James Crane. Catherine’s sister Eliza was likely also in town as the wife of disgraced mine captain Philip McVicar (Various sources combined here but the Crane genealogical connections are drawn from James Crane’s will) .
