My first record of the Folks family being at Little Bay is for 1883. They’d arrived from Betts Cove following the German mining operations. The men worked as miners when mining operations were lucrative and otherwise switched into fishing. Some were Methodists while others were members of the Church of England. They resided at Shoal Arm and could have been there as early as 1878. The family remained there well into the 20th century. • 1893 – William George and Thirza Folks have son Herbert Folks. William is listed as a miner. The family is Church of England and living at Shoal Arm (Civ births)

• 1895 – Richard and Celia Folks have son William Ernest Folks. Richard is listed as a fisherman. The family is Methodist (Civ births)
• 1898 – William Folks listed as miner at Shoal Arm (McAlpine)
• 1900 – Birth of Arthur Fokes to William and Janet at Shoal Arm (1921 census)
• 1904 – William and Matthew Folks listed as fishermen at Shoal Arm (McAlpine)
• 1908 – Birth of Pierce Fokes to William and Janet at Shoal Arm (1921 census) 
• 1911 – William and Janet Folks living at Shoal Arm with children. The family is listed as Methodist with the exception of William who is Church of England. He is listed as a miner (1911 census)
• 1915 – Herbert Folks inlists in WW1. He lists his occupation in Little Bay as fisherman. He is the son of William
• 1916 – Birth of May Fokes to William and Janet at Shoal Arm (1921 census)
• 1917 – Albert Folks lists his occupation in Little Bay as a labourer in Little Bay. He is the son of William and Janet Folks (Military files)
• 1918 – Albert Folks is killed in combat in France (Military files)
• 1919 – Herbert Folks is discharged. He returns to Little Bay where his parents are still living (Military files)
• 1921 – Herbert Folks received the British War Medal. His address is listed as Little Bay. He is still a member of the Church of England (Military files)
• 1921 – Memorial plaque for Albert Folks mailed to William Folks in Little Bay. Family still listed as Methodist (Military files)
• 1921 – William and Janet Fokes living at Shoal Arm with children Arthur, Pierce, and May (1921 census)
• 1935 – Folks family still resides at Shoal Arm with houses headed by Pierce, Elizabeth, and Jenett (1935 census)
