Warren

The Warrens were Catholic and had come to Little Bay from Grey Island.

The Warren family shows up in my records for Little Bay rather late, making their first appearance in 1892. They fit the pattern of brothers arriving with their own schooner but I have no evidence they ever engaged in mining work. It’s possible they arrived earlier and mined first but it’s possible they just arrived later and were fishermen the whole time.

I can tell you they stayed around long after the fires and resulting exodus at the turn of the 20th century. My last reference comes from 1948 when I believe only John Warren remained. He was nearing 80 years old and was living with the Dobbin family. He was recognized at this time as the uncle of WW2 hero James Thomas Head whose family had left Little Bay for Glace Bay, Nova Scotia with much of the town’s population half a century earlier.
